Local work stays local.

The deck app
deck is an interface for local terminals, with no cloud service, cloud account or remote server hosting your tasks. It does not upload terminal prompts, commands, paths, session names or output to a deck service. Application state is stored locally under ~/.deck. Terminals run through a local tmux background process; there is no server for you to deploy. Your chosen CLI may contact its own model provider or other services; its data handling and account settings apply.
Voice and optional integrations
Voice recognition runs on your Mac, with no cloud speech fallback. Apple may download language assets when needed. Deck does not save recordings or transcripts to disk. Confirmed speech is typed directly into the selected terminal, without Enter; the program there may then handle that text under its own rules.
Optional Claude Code and Codex hooks report a fixed status word, the pane identifier and the agent’s opaque turn id, never prompts, output or paths. Enabling them adds Deck’s hooks to ~/.claude/settings.json or ~/.codex/hooks.json; turning them off removes exactly those hooks. Optional Slack connections read your own reaction events or explicitly matched channel messages. Matching channel text is stored in a card scratchpad; the first match may also start a saved template, while later notes are not automatically sent. Deck never posts to Slack. Optional Phone Connector listens on a selected private-network address for paired devices; a paired phone can read eligible agent-card output and request prompts or saved task presets. Optional MCP clients receive only locally authorized Deck access. The separate Deck Tunnel Helper stores its OpenAI Runtime API key in macOS Keychain and runs the official tunnel-client over an outbound connection when you choose to start it. Slack tokens and MCP client credentials are also held in Keychain, outside ~/.deck. Phone Connector keeps its TLS private key in Keychain and stores only a hash of each paired phone’s token. “Notify me when away” is off by default; when on, macOS shows the card title, the project name and one fixed phrase, never prompts, output or paths. Optional Local Translation runs on your Mac: after you confirm, it downloads a fixed English → Simplified Chinese offline pack from Mozilla’s public storage, and no text is sent anywhere for translation. Its “Copied text” tab reads only text copied while that tab is chosen and Deck is in front, and skips copies marked as private by the app that made them. Update checks and release downloads connect to GitHub.
Local Translation and reminders
Local Translation is off by default. Installing its English-to-Chinese offline pack needs explicit download confirmation. Once installed, translation makes no network request; source and translated text stay in memory, outside logs, terminal input and application data files. Live view reads only the visible terminal viewport. Copied text observes new copies only while that tab is selected and Deck is in front, not the clipboard already present when it is opened.
Card reminders save your chosen time and optional note locally. Notifications use the card title, project name and a fixed phrase, without the reminder note, prompt, terminal output or path. macOS controls notification authorization and display. Reminder intent and system registration are separate; saving does not guarantee a visible banner.
Local data and logs
Lists, card scratchpads and pending inspection checkpoints contain the text needed to run or review them. Diagnostic logs use structured, sanitized events and remain local; export is an explicit action. Shell recovery is off by default. If enabled, it keeps bounded, best-effort-redacted output snapshots for up to seven days. Redaction may not remove every secret.
Use the separate Settings controls to clear command history, recovery snapshots or logs. Resetting logs does not stop sessions or clear other data. Before removing application data, stop work deliberately and disable integrations through Settings. Deleting ~/.deck alone neither removes Keychain tokens and CLI hook configuration nor terminates the independent tmux server. Keep a backup if you need to retain your work.
